5th Dimension

The 5th Dimension is a statewide network of university-school-community partnerships providing after-school technology-based activities for youth and their families. 5th Dimension provides students with rich intellectual and social experiences that promote their character and leadership development, academic skills, and ability to work and play effectively with others.

In the Fresno area the 5th Dimension involves more than 350 student participants from Carver Academy, King Elementary, Edison High School, Fresno City College and California State University, Fresno. The 5th Dimension also provides a rich environment for research and evaluation projects, as well as helping to establish a broad network of long-term academic development collaborations with both K-12 schools and institutions of higher education.

The San Joaquin Valley 5th Dimension has attracted resources and participation from throughout the UC system. Dr. Mike Cole of UC San Diego, originator of the 5th Dimension program, leads the UCERC research team with CSUF Professor Dr. Jim Marshall as Co-Principal Investigators. Dr. Charles Underwood of the University of California Office of the President provides research support and resources to the UCERC research team. Future plans include expanding the UCLinks 5th Dimension to other sites in the San Joaquin Valley and implementing professional development initiatives originating from 5th Dimension participant researchers and academic collaborators.
